Sign Linguistics

Sign linguistics is the study of languages in the visual modality. This is a separate programme within Linguistics and is unique in the Netherlands. Sign languages are studied from a linguistic perspective whilst Sign Language of the Netherlands is taught to a high level. In addition to specific modules in sign linguistics, modules on general linguistics are also offered. Particular attention is paid to understanding how sign languages differ from spoken languages.
