Christel W. van Eck is an Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. She is passionate about climate change communication and polarization research. In 2015, she was granted the NWO Research Talent grant to conduct her own PhD research about climate change polarization in the blogosphere, at Wageningen University. During her PhD, she worked for a couple of months at the Social Decision-Making Lab of Sander van der Linden, at the University of Cambridge.
Her current research can roughly be categorized into three research lines. The first research line builds on her PhD research to further understand the role of online media in climate change polarization. The second research line focuses on effective climate science communication. In the last research line, Christel aims to understand communication, polarization, and deliberation practices in the Dutch Energietransitie.
Next to her research activities, Christel is passionate about communicating her research beyond academia. She regularly gives workshops and presentations in which she tries to bridge the science and practice of climate change communication.
