Citizen science en maatschappelijk betrokkenheid

The University of Amsterdam is committed to tackling societal challenges. We do this by educating students, but also through research with social partners and citizens (non-academics).

In the context of Open Science, societal engagement means not only making research publicly available, but also involving non-academics in conducting research via Citizen Science. From 2026, the UvA will participate with the Vrije Universiteit and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in the eXtreme Citizen Science Hub Amsterdam, funded by Open Science NL. The hub unites citizen science initiatives in Amsterdam, promotes collaboration between communities, higher education institutions and policymakers, and will be a knowledge hub for both researchers and citizens.
