    Leila Faghfouri Azar is a PhD Researcher in Philosophy of Law at the Paul Scholten Centre for Jurisprudence, Faculty of Law. Her main areas of research interets include critical legal theory, general jurisprudence, theories of radical equality, Marxist legal theory, irregular migration and human rights theory. Leila’s current research project is a legal-philosophical inquiry into the phenomenon of alien illegality under the European regime of human rights protection.

    Prior to joining the University of Amsterdam, Leila received an LLB in Jurisprudence from the University of Tehran and an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the Iranian National University. She received her second Master’s degree in Philosophy of Law from Leiden University for which she was awarded the Platinum Excellence Scholarship (LexS). Leila also received a one-year research fellowship appointment at Leiden University, Institute for Philosophy and did a one-year postgraduate level coursework in socio-legal theory at the University of Oxford, Centre for Socio-Legal Studies. 

    Leila is a core tutor at PPLE College. She also teaches in the International and European Law programme at the Hague University of Applied Sciences. She is an author at criticallegalthinking and a regular contributor and co-editor of Critique of Law and Politics, an initiative of the Persian-speaking platform pecritique
