Profile
I am an assistant professor at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (University of Amsterdam). My work focuses on the digitalization of journalism, where I study the increased use of AI and algorithms in the newsroom and how these technologies are (re)shaping news creation and consumption. I also study current issues related to populism and how politicians utilize strategies associated with populist communication to address the public.

Current research projects
- News recommender systems and the newsroom: In this project we study how the implementation of algorithmic recommendation systems impacts news production. This includes work dynamics of news media professionals and perceived benefits and concerns of these systems.
- News algorithms and trust: In a five-country study, we conduct a survey to establish correlations between perceived use of algorithms on news websites and readers’ trust in the media.
- News environment simulation: In this project we employ a simulation to estimate how a news media environment and reading behaviour might change with different recommendation parameters in place.
