This course presents a global overview of political, socio-economic and cultural developments in the Byzantine Empire, with special focus on topics such as state and statecraft, social relations, development of Orthodoxy, Byzantine culture (art and literature).
You will acquire global knowledge/understanding of the political, socio-economic and cultural developments in the Byzantine Empire (324-1453); its connection with late-medieval, early-modern and contemporary cultural expressions and social problems in Greece.
