Application and admission

Before you apply for the Master’s programme in Communication Science, we ask that you check the entry requirements and read the application instructions carefully. A specific application procedure will apply to you, depending on your previous education. Students applying for September intake must obtain their diploma before 1 September. For February intake, students must obtain their diploma before 1 February. In case a student does not yet have a hard copy of their diploma, a declaration of graduation will suffice.

If you have any further questions, please read our FAQ through the button below. If that did not answer your question you can reach out to admissions-cs@uva.nl.

1. Bachelor's degree in Communication Science at the UvA*

If you obtained your Bachelor's degree in Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam, you are directly admissible to the Master's programme. After you have enrolled in Studielink, you can register for the track of your choice during the course registration weeks. Note: students who intend to start with the Research Master's must request admission for this programme.

Instructions on how to apply for the Research Master’s can be found here.

2. Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science at a select other Dutch university*

If you obtained your Bachelor's degree in Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Universiteit Twente or Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, or if you completed the International Bachelor’s in Communication and Media at the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, you are directly admissible to the Master's programme. After you have enrolled in Studielink, you can register for the track of your choice during the course registration weeks. Note: students who intend to start with the Research Master's must request admission for this programme. Instructions on how to apply for the Research Master’s can be found here.

This means you are automatically enrolled and there is no need to request admission. Our administration will send you more information about course registration, extending immigration and introduction days in May and July (September start) or November and December (February start).

3. Any other Bachelor’s degree

If you did not obtain your Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam or one of the universities mentioned in paragraph 2, you will need to request admission to the Master's programme. To find out more about your application procedure, choose one of the options below.
