Cultural and Social Anthropology

Career

Students of the Master's programme Cultural and Social Anthropology conduct a full qualitative research project, largely autonomous. These practical and analytical skills, together with a solid theoretical background, prepare you for a wide range of positions.

Where do our graduates work?

As a Cultural and Social Anthropology graduate you can expect to work as:

  • advisor or civil servant at a ministry, municipality, or other governmental institution
  • project manager at a non-profit organisation, company, or in academia
  • independent or PhD researcher or consultancy

Our graduates have, for instance, found positions at the Municipality of Amsterdam, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, VluchtelingenWerk, IKEA, the Dutch trade unions, Graduates seeking a research career within academia are eligible to pursue a PhD. 

Dutch-speaking graduates can pursue a second Master's at the UvA in teaching to be able to teach at high school or primary school.

Your diploma is not a farewell

After graduating, you don't have to say goodbye to the University of Amsterdam! We are happy to help you develop your career. You can join the young alumni programme, which will assist you in mapping out your career. And as an alumnus, you can also still use the Student Careers Centre.
