I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research with the RaceFaceID team and an affiliated researcher of the Archaeology department.

My research interest concerns the field of archaeoethnography which combines a study of the material past with insights from material semiotics (science studies) and ethnography (anthropology). Current research in progress centres on the study of archaeological knowledge practices, more specifically on the classifying, technifying and datafying archaeologist. Another ongoing research interest concerns nineteenth century metabolist philosophies in the Netherlands, especially those of physician and philosopher Jacob Moleschott, and how these affected the development of Italian archaeology and anthropology in the later nineteenth century.

Previously I have been working for the Satricum Research Project (1995-2011) for which I served as a deputy director and field director from 2000-2009, and for the New Perspectives on Ancient Pottery Project (2007-2013) for which I published and presented various book chapters, articles and papers related to my PhD project ‘Artifractual Archaeologies’ (supervisor M. Gnade). Throughout my academic studies and affiliations I have been involved in archaeological fieldwork, materials analysis and exhibitions in Italy (Lazio, Puglia, Calabria), Romania (Salaj) and the Netherlands.
