Je leert werken met allerlei algoritmen, waarvan je een deel zelf gaat bouwen en toepassen op een breed scala aan problemen. De minor heeft geen ingangseisen op gebied van programmeren: wat je nodig hebt ga je bij ons leren!

Biomedical Sciences: From basic biology to booming business
In the 21st century, our societies face multiple challenges related to human health. At the same time, many exciting new areas of research are developing, such as the area of ‘regenerative medicine’. In this minor, we will explore the frontiers of basic biomedical research and its diverse applications, organised around three themes: ‘development and cancer’, ‘stem cells and aging’ and ‘nutrition and the microbiome’. Students will engage with the material from different perspectives, including basic biomedical research and entrepreneurship.

Computational Science
Deze minor biedt studenten van verschillende disciplines de mogelijkheid zich te oriënteren op verschillende aspecten van computational science. Dat is een interdisciplinair vakgebied dat computermodellen ontwikkelt voor complexe wetenschappelijke vraagstukken om tot nieuwe inzichten en oplossingen te komen. Succesvolle afronding van deze minor geeft automatische toelating voor de master Computational Science (Joint Degree UvA-VU).

Educatie
Maak kennis met de theorie en de praktijk van het beroep van leraar. Na afronding ontvang je een beperkte tweedegraads lesbevoegdheid, waarmee je mag lesgeven in de onderbouw van havo/vwo en het gehele vmbo.

Evolutionary Psychobiology
This programme is the only minor in The Netherlands that focuses on evolution and (human) behaviour. Students acquire extensive knowledge about how natural selection and sexual selection have shaped the evolution of behavior. It covers diverse species, but includes an emphasis on humans and other primates. In addition, students acquire research skills related to the study of animal behaviour (including a research project in Artis zoo), comparative psychology, human and animal intelligence, plasticity and learning, and evolutionary anthropology. Students also explore their critical thinking about theories on evolution and behaviour by writing, presenting, and discussing.

Human-Computer Interaction
In deze interdisciplinaire minor pas jij ideeën uit de psychologie en informatiekunde toe op interactieve systemen zoals apps, websites of zelfs apparaten. Systemen van bedrijven, zoals websites en formulieren, maar ook van de overheid, of juist apps die mensen helpen om hun persoonlijke doelen te bereiken of hun creativiteit te uiten. De focus ligt hier helemaal bij de mensen die de systemen moeten gebruiken. Je leert hoe je goede systemen kunt ontwerpen, en hoe je de werking kunt valideren door zorgvuldig gebruikersonderzoek te doen.

Logic and Computation
As the science of truth and reasoning, logic provides the building blocks for accurate analytic thinking and computational modelling. By combining the techniques and arguments used in the humanities and the exact sciences, logic has established itself as a unique interdisciplinary field that plays a central role in artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, computer science, mathematics, philosophy and cognitive science. The minor Logic and Computation will offer students broad insight into all these areas by putting together a well-chosen package of logic-related courses from different Bachelor programmes of the University of Amsterdam.

Molecular Life Sciences
The Molecular Life Sciences are central to understanding the molecular basis of life. Only by interdisciplinary approaches between several fields – Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Bioinformatics - can we understand the processes that occur at the molecular level. This in-depth knowledge can be applied to, for instance, develop medicines or vaccines or create agricultural crops that are resistant to disease.

Help solve one of science’s greatest mysteries. In this hands-on minor, you’ll explore the theme of Origin of Life by working on a research project with an interdisciplinary team of students. Learn by doing as you combine ideas from different fields, tackle a complex question, and develop the skills needed to work effectively in a team of experts.

De minor Programmeren is een inleiding tot de kunst van het programmeren en de wetenschap achter de informatica. Dat betekent dat je tijdens de minor elke dag aan de slag gaat met programmeeropdrachten en -projecten, en dat je tegelijk kennis maakt met de principes achter bekende toepassingen zoals de digitale overheid, games, sociale media, LLM’s en nog veel meer. Een plek om stevig de basis te leren en dan snel beter te worden.

Science, Technology & Innovation:Biomimicry
In this minor, you will explore how nature builds strong and lightweight materials, forms networks, heals itself, and senses its surroundings, and then apply these insights to create a technologically advanced, real-life prototype of your own. You could replicate the properties of a bear claw, design a structure inspired by honeycomb for strength and efficiency, or build an autonomous robot. It’s up to you and your team to choose a challenge and tackle it with your own bio-inspired prototype.

In deze brede interdisciplinaire minor pas jij ideeën uit de bedrijfskunde, psychologie en informatiekunde toe om in kaart te brengen hoe ICT-systemen moeten werken, en hoe mensen samenwerken met computersystemen. Met de kennis uit deze minor kun je adviseren over toepassing van ICT in organisaties, maar je kunt ook de ontwikkeling van nieuwe systemen begeleiden. Alles met een scherp oog voor de mensen die ermee moeten werken.
