The Molecular Life Sciences are central to understanding the molecular basis of life. Only by interdisciplinary approaches between several fields – Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Bioinformatics - can we understand the processes that occur at the molecular level. This in-depth knowledge can be applied to, for instance, develop medicines or vaccines or create agricultural crops that are resistant to disease.
With this minor, you are fully prepared for a Bachelor project and a Master programme in molecular life sciences, including biomedical research and green life sciences.
The programme consists of 30 EC.
For more information about the content of the courses and the entry requirements, please check the course catalogue. Please note that the content of the minor has changed. Use the documents below until the new course catalogue has been published.

The minor Molecular Life Sciences is suitable for students who have successfully completed their first year of a university Bachelor programme in one of the following fields: Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Psychobiology, Science Technology and Innovation (track engineering life and health) or Bèta-Gamma (major Biology) and meet the entry requirements of the selected courses. Other (international) students are welcome provided they have comparable prior knowledge.
This minor has a limited number of places. Students from the Bachelor Biology and the Bèta-Gamma major Biology of the University of Amsterdam will be prioritized.
The application procedure for the minor for 2026-2027 runs from 1 April up until 6 May.
