Artificial Intelligence
-
Biological Sciences: From basic biology to booming business 2025
In the 21st century, our societies face multiple challenges related to human health. At the same time, many exciting new areas of research are developing, such as the area of ‘regenerative medicine’. In this minor, we will explore the frontiers of basic biomedical research and its diverse applications, organised around three themes: ‘development and cancer’, ‘stem cells and aging’ and ‘nutrition and the microbiome’. Students will engage with the material from different perspectives, including basic biomedical research and entrepreneurship.
-
Biomedical Sciences: Neurobiology 2025
Do you have a keen interest in understanding your brain and its underlying workings? Or is it your ambition to become a neuroscientist? Then join this minor. No prerequisite knowledge required, apart from the will to drive your brain along the intricate paths of neurobiology.
-
Change Making
Collaborate with professionals and work on real-life issues concerning societal change with the minor Change Making. Change Makers use the transition cyclus to approach urgent societal and ecological challenges.
-
Collective Futures (MSc)
Collective Futures bridges your academic studies to a meaningful career. Join an open learning environment where you collaborate with impactful organisations and researchers, discover your talents, and apply them directly to today's pressing issues.
-
Computational Science
-
Evolutionary Psychobiology
The minor Evolutionary Psychobiology is the only minor in The Netherlands about evolution and (human) behaviour. Students acquire extensive knowledge about how natural and sexual selection (and other evolutionary processes) have driven the evolution of behaviour, with the focus on humans and other primates. In addition, students acquire research skills in the area of animal behaviour (including a research project in the zoo Artis), comparative psychology, human and animal intelligence, plasticity and learning, and evolutionary anthropology. Students also explore their critical thinking about theories on evolution and behaviour by writing essays and participating in discussions.
-
Global Water Challenges
How can we achieve universal access to safe water for an expanding world population, achieve high natural water quality and safeguard ourselves against rising water levels?
-
Green Chemistry
-
Logic and Computation
As the science of truth and reasoning, logic provides the building blocks for accurate analytic thinking and computational modelling. By combining the techniques and arguments used in the humanities and the exact sciences, logic has established itself as a unique interdisciplinary field that plays a central role in artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, computer science, mathematics, philosophy and cognitive science. The minor Logic and Computation will offer students broad insight into all these areas by putting together a well-chosen package of logic-related courses from different Bachelor programmes of the University of Amsterdam.
-
Molecular Life Sciences
The Molecular Life Sciences are central to understanding the molecular basis of life. Only by interdisciplinary approaches between several important fields – Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Bioinformatics - can we unravel the processes that occur at the molecular level and start to apply it to our benefits. This can be at the level of developing medicines and vaccines in the fight against e.g. COVID-19 or creating agricultural crops that are resistant to pathogenic fungi that threaten the harvest.
-
Origins Interspecial
Do you want to address a complex research question that has been keeping scientists busy since the beginning of time? Do you want to master the skills to work efficiently as a specialist in an interdisciplinary team? Do you like to learn by doing? In this minor you will work on a research project within the field of Origin of Life in an interdisciplinary team of students and help researchers bring together the pieces of the puzzle.
-
Programmeren
-
Rethinking Sustainable Societies
This minor provides you with new perspectives by exploring new lines of thinking from different disciplines across the faculties of the UvA and allows you to rethink what a sustainable society would or should look like.
-
Science for Sustainability (MSc)
The minor ‘Science for Sustainability’ is a minor programme (30 ECTS) for science Master’s students who are eager to apply their scientific knowledge and make a contribution towards a sustainable future for humanity. The minor combines scientific knowledge with insight into economics and politics.
-
Science, Technology & Innovation:Biomimicry
In this minor, you will explore how nature builds strong and lightweight materials, forms networks, heals itself, and senses its surroundings, and then apply these insights to create a technologically advanced, real-life prototype of your own. You could replicate the properties of a bear claw, design a structure inspired by honeycomb for strength and efficiency, or build an autonomous robot. It’s up to you and your team to choose a challenge and tackle it with your own bio-inspired prototype.
-
Sustainable Food Systems
Do you want to shape the future of food and become a change-maker? This minor challenges you to think of solutions for a sustainable food system. You will work in an interdisciplinary team on a food-related project.
-
Wiskundige Thema's
