  • Profile

Florence Evans is a researcher and cultural producer who is interested in identifying social and political contexts for aesthetics. She uses investigations of art and visual culture as avenues for understanding how collective memory, post-conflict trauma and post-memory help to shape our identities and our present. Evans holds a Master of Studies (MSt) in History of Art and Visual Culture from the University of Oxford and a BA (Hons) in History of Art from University of East Anglia.

As AHM-funded PhD Candidate, Evans is working with artworks, performances, television and cinema from Argentina to decipher collective memory of its last civil-military dictatorship (1976-1983). Tracing narratives across diverse cultural objects, she seeks to uncover activistic spaces of resistance in which dominant political forces of neutralization and memory erasure are undermined.

Evans is from London where she worked for numerous arts and heritage organizations. Prior to joining AHM, she collaborated with artists to produce works across multiple disciplines and spaces including: gallery exhibitions and screenings, site-specific theater and performances, community organizing, and also audio and video production. Through this work, she sought to elevate excluded narratives and to create opportunities for publics to critically engage power structures that shape our everyday.
