Edith van Ewijk (Dr.) is a post-doc researcher attached to the NWO research project: 'Stepping Out'. Her research focuses on transdisciplinary and inter-professional and inter-organizational learning for sustainability transitions in urban areas.
The full title of 'Stepping Out' is: : Accelerating deep transdisciplinary and interprofessional learning for innovative actions, interventions and strategies of deep sustainable transitions in port area development'. The project is led by Prof. P.W. Chan (TU-Delft) and is be carried out in close collaboration with the University of Amsterdam (Department of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies), Hogeschool Rotterdam and collaboration partners in Rotterdam and Amsterdam Harbour areas. The project is funded by NWO, Transitions and Behaviour call.
Edith van Ewijk works is an action researcher in the transdisciplinary research project with a focus on a new integrated area development plan (Integraal gebiedsplan) in the redevelopment area Haven-Stad. The team consists of professionals working at the municipality of Amsterdam and two main (privatized) utility companies: Liander (the energy grid manager) and Waternet (water supply, sanitation and wastewater treatment). Jointly they are planning for a sustainable and just city district, taking into account several sustainability transitions simultaneously. This is a challenging process whereby these professionals encounter all kind of system barriers within and between organizations. She has also been involved in designing, coordinating and teaching a training course on system innovation for professionals (leergang systeem innovatie), led by Prof. John Grin (UvA).

Edith holds a PhD in mutual learning in municipal partnerships and has worked as postdoc researcher in the research project 'Putting heads together - knowledge brokering and knowledge co-creation in food and business research' with main applicant: Dr. M.A.F. (Mirjam) Ros-Tonen (UvA), funded by NWO-WOTRO, Science for Using Research (SURe).
Edith has also extensive research experience outside the academic world and has worked as senior researcher in various organizations as well as independent consultant.
