    Dr. Rebeca Fernández Rodríguez is an internationally renowned scholar in the fields of cultural and linguistic contact, areas in which she has established world-leading research trajectories.  

    She is a member of the ROLD Research Group (Revitalising Older Linguistic Documentation) which is affiliated to the Amsterdam Centre of Language and Communication (ACLC).  This academic association brings together expert scholars from different countries, and is unique in investigating older texts (colonial, postcolonial, missionary and non-missionary, word lists of travelers and historians) with the following objectives: historical linguistics, the history of linguistics, sociocultural analysis, and translation studies.

    Dr. Fernández Rodríguez participates in several international projects:  the Seminario permanente de Historiografía Lingüística (FES Acatlán-Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), the Etnolexicografía de lenguas indígenas patagónicas (Universidad de la Pampa, Argentina). She is editing the oldest bilingual dictionary of Ilocano, a Philippine language: Tesoro de la lengua ylocana (ca. 1760). She is also interested in Polymaths and the diffusion of Knowledge between Europe-Asia-America with the project of a word-list in 50 commisioned by Russia and carried on by Spain. 

    Dr Fernández Rodríguez is currently Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam and Utrecht University where she designs and delivers both postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in Spanish/Hispanic and Romance Linguistics.  She is an expert and experienced tutor and holds a Dutch teaching qualification. She was Senior Lecturer at the Universidad de Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Portugal) from 2010 to 2015. She was also subdirector of the MA Teaching in Spanish and Portuguese at Primary and Secondary levels at UTAD. She majored in Translation Studies at the University of Valladolid (2004) and she holds a PhD in Linguistics by the Universidad de Valladolid (2012). She is also a Sworn Translator in English appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2005. Since September 2018 she is the desk editor of ERLACS, European Review of Latin America and Caribbean Studies).

    Dr. Fernández Rodríguez is “Investigadora Colaboradora” in the Centro de Estudos em Letras, Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Vila Real, Portugal, and visiting lecturer at the UNAM, (FES Acatlán). Dr. Fernández Rodríguez was invited as Junior Scholar by the Japan Society for the promotion of Science (JSPS) under the auspices of the "Invitational Training Program for Advanced Japanese Research Institutes". In Japan she was hosted by the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA) / Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS).

    Dr. Fernández Rodríguez is also a member of the Editorial Board of the book series Lingüística misionera (Vervuert/ Iberoamericana) and Revista de Letras (CEL/UTAD). She acts as expert scholarly reviewer for international journals, and has peer reviewed papers for Historiographia Lingüística (John Benjamins), Language and History (Henry Sweet Society - Taylor & Francis) and Porta Linguarum (Universidad de Granada).
