    Daniëlle van der Giessen received her bachelor degree in Pedagogical Sciences (2007) and her Research Master degree in the Development and Socialization in Childhood and Adolescence (2009, Cum Laude) at Utrecht University. In June 2009, she started her PhD-project at the Research Centre of Adolescent Development at Utrecht University. Daniëlle wrote her dissertation on the development of parent-adolescent relationships and adolescents’ psychosocial problems (2009-2013). In particular, she investigated the role of emotional flexibility in parent-adolescent interactions for healthy functioning of adolescents.

    As an Assistant Professor at the UvA, Daniëlle focuses on 

    - understanding real-time behavioral and emotional processes during parent-child interactions

    - the role of emotional flexibility in parent-child interactions in the development of children's and parents' anxiety and depression

    - parenting behavior and emotion regulation in toddlers and children

    - employing innovative dynamic systems methods

    - informing prevention and intervention science
