  • Profile

Koen Groenland is a theoretical physicist with a PhD in the near-term applications of quantum computers from QuSoft. He works as an innovation officer at the University of Amsterdam, where he is responsible for setting up research collaborations and developing lifelong learning education for professionals. He is one of the driving forces behind Quantum.Amsterdam, the innovation hub that drives the commercialisation of quantum technologies around the Dutch capital.

Groenland's research involves the business adoption of quantum technology:

    • What can companies and governments do with quantum computing?
    • When will quantum computers be ready for commercial use?
    • How can we rapidly update billions of applications to become secure against hackers with quantum computers?
    • Do quantum networks provide sufficient value to jusitfy their costs?
    • What strategic actions should organisations take today?

Outreach and public awareness are crucial for ensuring smooth transition to quantum technology. Groenland is a frequent speaker at conferences and workshops and is author of the open-access book Introduction to Quantum Computing for Business, providing essential insights to help non-technical audiences navigate this nascent field.
