Nerses Hovsepyan is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies. His doctoral research explores how late medieval Armenian identity developed in relation to Islam. His project is supervised by Dr Lisa Kattenberg, Dr Josephine van den Bent and Prof Dr Gerard Wiegers, and forms part of the wider research initiative Intercultural Contact and Identity Formation in Premodern Frontier Zones.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Oriental Studies from Yerevan State University and a research Master’s degree in Religious Studies from Utrecht University.
