Jochem de Kok is a PhD Candidate at the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance (ACELG) and Senior Associate at A&O Shearman. His research focuses on investment screening in the European Union.
Jochem is specialised in investment screening, competition law and national security. He has broad experience advising corporations on complex multi-jurisdictional investment screening and merger control procedures, state aid, behavioural antitrust and national security legislation. He regularly represents companies in proceedings before the European Commission, the Dutch Competition Authority, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as Dutch and European courts.
He has published in various leading international law journals, including European Law Review, Journal of International Economic Law, World Competition and Legal Issues of Economic Integration, as well as Dutch journals including Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Europees Recht and Tijdschrift Mededingingsrecht in de Praktijk. He is one of the authors of Kluwer's 'Text & Commentary' on investment screening law.
Jochem furthermore is a Lecturer at the University of Bonn and is regularly invited to speak at conferences or provide guest lectures on investment screening or competition law. He is a member of the Dutch Investment Screening Association (VVI) and Competition Law Association (VvM). Prior to qualifying as a lawyer, he completed the Blue Book Traineeship at DG Competition of the European Commission.
Jochem graduated from the University of Cambridge (LLM, First Class Honours) and the University of Groningen (Research LLM, Cum Laude).
