    Ik ben werkzaam bij de afdeling Ecosysteem en Landschaps Dynamiek dat valt binnen het Instituut voor Biodiversiteit en Ecosysteem Dynamica. Ik geef onderwijs binnen de bachelor FPS en de master Earth sciences binnen de track Environmental sciences en Future Planet Ecosystem Sciences. Mijn wetenschappelijke interesse ligt in de interacties tussen planten en de levensgemeenschap rondom hun wortels, ook wel het bodemvoedselweb genoemd. Ik ben vooral geinteresseerd in hoe bodemlevensgemeenschappen de plant beinvloeden en andersom. Tot nu toe heb ik gekeken naar de effecten van de verandering in bodemlevensgemeenschap die plaatsvinden in een successiegradient waarbij landbouwgrond wordt omgevormd tot soortenrijk grasland. Dit heb ik gedaan met behulp van stabiele isotopen. Door de planten gelabelde koostofdioxide te geven raakt de bodemlevensgemeenschap rondom de wortels gelabeled doordat planten gelabeld koostof uitscheiden in de wortelzone als wortelexudaten. Hierdoor was ik in staat om een grootschalige bodemdeterminatie campagne in de wortelzone dezelfde successiegradient te koppelen aan koolstof-opname (een functie) in een ruime groep bodemorganismen (bacteriën, schimmels, mijten, springstaarten, potwormen, regenwormen en spinnen).
