  • Profile

Jule Schmitz is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). Her research focuses on the perceived confusion or ambiguity about nutrition recommendations and research among emerging adults, as well as its determinants (in the context of social media) and consequences. The overall project's aim is to develop tools for emerging adults that help navigate inaccurate, conflicting or misleading nutritional information on social media, thereby empowering emerging adults to make healthy dietary decisions.

  • Research background

Jule has a background in Health Communication and Public Relations. Her previous work as a research associate at the University of Erfurt and the LMU Munich focused on the empowerment of health care professionals in Germany (e.g., by means of in-person trainings on Motivational Interviewing), and on the development of a logic model to graphically describe the system underlying dietary and physical activity behaviours in young disadvantaged adults.

Jule also engaged in science communication activities, such as the participatory development of a ready-to-use workshop package on heat preparedness for independent use in local communities. She is a member of the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour.
