I am currently a PhD candidate within the NWO-funded project "Moral Truth: Exploring the Concept of Practical Cognition in Kant's Ethics". The project is situated at the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis and the Department of Philosophy of the University of Amsterdam. It lasts until the end of 2027. My supervisors are Professor Dr. Beate Roessler and principal investigator Dr. Thomas Nys.
In my PhD project, I will analyze the epistemological and ethical dimensions of the concept of practical cognition which becomes prevalent in the later works of Immanuel Kant. In close analogy with recent work on theoretical cognition, I research what role the concept of practical cognition plays, has played, and could play in the landscape of Kantian moral thinking. I am especially interested in the meta-ethical implications for our conceptualization of moral knowledge and how this impacts ongoing debates between constructivists and strong realists.
Before starting my PhD, I completed a Bachelor's and Research Master's in Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, and I worked there as a Junior Lecturer in ethics and social/political philosophy. During my PhD, I continue to teach courses in ethics, such as Practical Philosophy 1 and Freedom & Autonomy. I am also organizing the Philosophy and Public Affairs Colloquium and an upcoming conference dedicated to Kant's 300th birthyear.
