    Irina Souch is Lecturer in Comparative Literature and Cultural Analysis in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Cultures of the University of Amsterdam and holds a position of Affiliated Researcher at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) . Her monograph Popular Tropes of Identity in Contemporary Russian Television and Film (Bloomsbury 2017) focuses on the relation between the Soviet past and the state of Russian society today, public and scholarly discourses on Russian national identity, Russia’s relation to the West and the ways these questions are represented in popular media. She is also coeditor of the contributed volume Heterotopia and Globalisation in the Twenty-First Century (Routledge 2020).

    Her current work addresses narrative, aesthetic and political functions of landscape in serial television drama and film which requires exploration of various aspects of contemporary critical theory, philosophy, cultural geography, and film and television studies.
