The University of Amsterdam (UvA), in collaboration with Mee in Mokum, organises a special historic walking tour through Amsterdam’s city centre, with particular attention to UvA buildings and their earlier history.

Volunteer city guides from Stichting Gilde Amsterdam lead a small group of alumni along, among others, the former monastery and hospital, the Agnietenkapel, the Oost-Indisch Huis (East India House), the Maagdenhuis, the Oude Lutherse Kerk (Old Lutheran Church), the former university library and other notable University of Amsterdam buildings. Along the way, you will hear stories about the history of these buildings, such as the development from monastery to hospital and university, as well as about broader themes including social history, immigration, tolerance, religion, art, architecture, trade and shipping.

The walking tour lasts approximately 1.5, up to a maximum of 2, hours and starts and ends at the University Library, Vendelstraat 2–8. A Dutch-language group is also available
