Together, they explore how online hate around gender identity arises, which political and societal interests sometimes lie behind it, and what the consequences are for people who fall outside traditional categories. At the same time, the discussion highlights the positive sides of not fitting into boxes: more room for authenticity, creativity and new ways of looking at identity and society. An evening about representation, resilience and the question of how we can embrace differences rather than fight them.
Speakers
Liza Mügge is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam, where she leads the politicsofdiversity.eu group. Her research focuses on different aspects of diversity in politics, such as representation, inclusion, resistance, anti‑gender movements and hate. In her latest projects, she studies political masculinity together with an international team of scholars, activists and theatre makers.
Willemijn Krebbekx is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and works on questions related to gender and sex education. Her research focuses on how ideas about sexuality emerge and change, both through organised initiatives such as sex education and in everyday interactions – for example through teasing, gossip and flirting.
Tammie Schoots is a journalist at Omroep Zwart. Together with Lize Korpershoek, she created the documentary and podcast Tammie zoekt een vriendje (Tammie Looks for a Boyfriend), about her search for love as a trans woman. She has also worked as a freelance journalist, including for OneWorld and LINDA.meiden.
Nanoah Struik is a Nigerian‑Dutch writer, speaker, podcaster and queer activist. In 2023 they made the podcast documentary In Afrika Besta Ik Niet and in 2026 published their debut Benin Boi with Atlas Contact (Spring). Nanoah enjoys talking about gender, sex(uality) and other topics that can be confrontational. They are currently working as a podcast maker at BNNVARA.
Linda Duits is a social scientist specialising in popular culture, particularly in the areas of gender and sexuality. She teaches, among other places, in the Media & Culture programme at the University of Amsterdam and is a researcher at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry at Utrecht University. Duits is a podcaster from the very beginning (Onder Mediadoctoren has existed since 2012) and publishes regularly in media such as Het Parool and NRC Handelsblad. She has written several books.
