During the Maagdenhuis occupation in 2015, the University of Colour was founded, with one central message: 'No democratisation without decolonisation'. Following the occupation, the Executive Board agreed to establish an independent diversity commission. Prof. Gloria Wekker became its chair, and in 2016 the commission presented the report Let's Do Diversity. This marked the start of UvA's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Ten years on, we will reflect on what has changed at the UvA in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) since that influential publication. But we will also address which themes remain relevant today and what we can do moving forward.
During the breaks, participants can also visit Our University, an interactive LEGO installation about diversity, equity and inclusion in campus life, located in the library’s main hall on Floor 0.
We all share a responsibility of doing diversity. Whether you are a student or a colleague, have been part of the UvA community for years or have just arrived, are new to the field of diversity or a seasoned professional: everbody is welcome. Places are limited, so make sure you register in time.
