Green Chemistry

Green chemistry is necessary to meet the societal needs for greener production of energy, food, fuels and (raw) materials. If you want to broaden your knowledge with a molecular perspective on this transition, this minor will provide a good basis. The aim of this minor is twofold. It is meant to provide interested students from other study programmes a basic background in chemistry, the world of molecules and their reactivity. Secondly, students will learn about environmental chemistry, the principles and/or challenges of green chemistry. The minor is composed of 5 compulsory courses (24 EC) and 1 elective (6 EC).

Entry requirements

The minor Green Chemistry is well suited for third-year students from Future Planet Studies, Beta-gamma and Biology, but students from other programmes with at least some background in physics, including basic thermodynamics, and math are invited as well.

Third-year students from a Chemistry bachelor from another university than UvA/VU are also able to follow this minor with a slight modification; the first year courses are not mandatory.
