Continuing quality through change

The creativity, flexibility and commitment of our lecturers, staff, and students made all of this possible. Marcel Vreeswijk, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science

In 2024-2025 the faculty faced several challenges. We see a decline in enrolment, particularly in our undergraduate programmes, which leads to a reduction in the education budget. However, with currently 31 programmes and over 7,000 students, we remain committed to offering the full range of exact sciences, including our three newest programmes: the Bachelor's in Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Master's in Quantum Computer Science and Complex Systems and Policy.

At the same time, we continued to deliver high-quality education across all our programmes, preparing for the coming years. New education rooms, so-called future-learning-spaces have been commissioned; pilots with gen-AI in the education programme have commenced under the guidance of the Teaching and Learning Centre, and many newcomers completed their UTQ/BKO.

The creativity, flexibility and commitment of our lecturers, staff, and students made all of this possible. We will continue to do the work with the people we have and I hope that our curiosity and drive for science will continue to inspire the next generation.

Studying at the Faculty of Science
The 7,500 students at the Faculty of Science all share an unwavering curiosity. No matter their interest, with our research-based Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes we offer a home to all of them at our Amsterdam Science Park Campus. Our students are part of a community of dedicated peers and lecturers.
Highlights Teaching
Our lecturers are eager to learn more. Whether to develop their didactic skills or to find innovative teaching methods, their aim remains clear: wanting to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Science Day 2024

On Saturday, 5 October 2024, Amsterdam Science Park opened its doors for the annual Science Day. Here, visitors could enjoy interactive activities around the theme “How does it work?”. Scientists from eight research institutes at the Faculty of Science took visitors on a journey through the entire spectrum of science: from cell biology to theoretical physics, from artificial intelligence to sustainable chemistry.
