Last year, we worked hard at the faculty to raise the visibility of the different teacher programmes in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science. The topic came up in almost every meeting, at internal events we were ready with our promo stand, and colleagues were involved in our recruitment efforts in many ways.

And with good results! Thanks to the combined efforts of colleagues inside and outside the degree programmes, we are seeing a huge, almost threefold increase in the intake for science teacher programmes this year. Applications to obtain a first-degree (eerstegraads) teaching qualification have increased by almost half compared to last year, and for limited second-degree (tweedegraads) teaching qualification programmes, the number of applications has almost tripled.

It is a great moment to warmly thank everyone who contributed to this. This growth shows that our efforts are making a real difference in tackling the shortage of science teachers.

Next year too, we will continue in full force – because although this is a step in the right direction, the problem is far from solved. Together, we will continue to work for more and well-trained secondary school teachers.

Thank you for your involvement – and here's to even more forward-thinking teachers in the classroom!
