Turkey is a country that ties Europe and Asia, and with around 80 million speakers worldwide, Turkish is an important language. Learning Turkish will enable you to understand Turkey's rich heritage and give you a better context to interpret the current cultural and political events. Thus, if you are interested in international relations and diplomacy, learning Turkish will definitely benefit you.
Minor Turkish

Turkish is a typologically different language than many European languages. If you are interested in studying languages, learning this language will expand your understanding of language in general. The minor Turkish at the UvA includes 24 EC worth of language proficiency courses, plus an overarching course ‘The World in Languages’. You will learn to place Turkish and the other languages of the world in a broader linguistic perspective.
