The ‘UvA Quants Career Event  2023’, a co-organisation of three master’s programmes: Stochastics and Financial Mathematics, Computational Science and the Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance took place on Friday 10 March 10, at Science Park 904. The coordinator of this event was Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics. The name of the event refers to the meaning of a quant: this is an expert in analysing and processing quantitative data.

The goal of UvA Quants is to give the most ambitious master students of the three master programs more insight into practical issues in the financial sector and provide them with opportunities to take part in internships and training programs which  might lead to recruitment.

The nine companies from the financial sector were: ABN AMRO, Deloitte, Flow Traders, IMC Trading, ING, KPMG, Nationale Nederlanden, Ortec Finance and Rabobank.

The day was packed with morning and afternoon sessions of Case Studies in which various topics such as ‘Mitigating risk within global markets’, ‘ Insight into the world of trading’ and '‘The actuarial merger & acquisition’ were handled. In addition to the case studies, the master students had the opportunity to have 1-to-1 interviews with a company of their own choice.

The event, which started at 11.00 a.m. went on till 17.00 p.m. and was closed with drinks and further interaction between the companies and the students.
