Entry requirements
The Admissions Office will evaluate your eligibility based on:
-
1. Your academic Bachelor’s degree
If you wish to apply for this Master’s, you are expected to hold an academic Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field that ensures a level of mathematical proficiency (e.g. Mathematics, Physics or Econometrics), particularly in the fields of calculus, linear algebra, statistics and probability.
Additionally, you are assumed to be familiar with the following topics:
- Linear regression models
- Finance in economics
- Actuarial Science, in particular risk theory and elementary life insurance
If you want to become a member of the Actuarieel Genootschap (Royal Dutch Society of Actuaries), you need to have finished the Postmaster Actuarial Practice Cycle (APC) programme. To enter the APC programme, you need to have passed the courses of the minor Actuarial Science. These courses are spread over at least 2 semesters.
You can be admitted to the minor Actuarial Science if you are a student:
- holding a Dutch university Bachelor's or Master's degree in Econometrics with about 30 ECTS of actuarial courses taken. You must also have completed a course in financial and empirical mathematics.
- holding a Dutch university Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics and Physics and you have obtained an introductory course in econometrics and courses in mathematical statistics. Level and subject matter should be comparable to that of the book Introduction to Probability and Mathematical Statistics by Bain and Engelhardt.
- If you are a student holding another degree than Econometrics, Operations Research, Mathematics and Physics, you cannot attend a minor programme. You can enrol for the minor courses through modular courses in business (Contractonderwijs).
If your previous education does not fulfill this programme’s requirements, you might be eligible to apply for the pre-Master's programme.
Selection
Meeting the entry requirements alone is not a guarantee for admission. Besides the entry requirements you need to meet the selection criteria. This means that your application will be compared with other applicants. The selection is based on your GPA score, and motivation letter.
-
1. Your Grade Point Average (GPA)
We are looking for students who have shown academic potential to keep up with the high level and workload of the programme.
Therefore, one of the criteria on which your application will be assessed is the Grade Point Average (GPA). We do not require a specific minimum GPA for this programme, but we will compare and assess the performance on all selection criteria to make an informed decision regarding placement into the programme.
-
2. Your motivation letter
The motivation letter (max. one A4) allows you to explain why you would be a good fit for the Master’s programme and which experiences have led you to this decision.
