Ik ben taalkundige bij de afdeling Taalbeheersing, Argumentatietheorie en Retorica en ben geïnteresseerd in hoe persoonlijke, situatie-afhankelijke en culturele verschillen in hoe mensen taal beleven beïnvloeden hoe we met onze sociale, natuurlijke en technologische leefwereld omgaan. Mijn publicaties gaan voornamelijk over reported speech (taalstrategieën en -structuren om over taal te praten), stance (praten over houdingen en meningen) en grammaticale beschrijvingen (voornamelijk over de Australische Aboriginaltaal Ngarinyin en het Russisch).
Ik heb mijn PhD behaald binnen een project naar sociale cognitie en grammatica bij de Australian National University in Canberra in 2016 en ben daarna postdoc geweest bij de Universiteiten van Leuven en Helsinki. Sinds 2025 ben ik terug bij mijn alma mater, de Universiteit van Amsterdam als docent taalbeheersing, argumentatie en retorica.
Als je een Bachelor- of Masterscriptie wilt schrijven over innerlijke spraak ('inner speech'), taal en (Inheemse) culturen, multimodale semiotiek of (sociale) cognitie en taal, neem gerust contact met me op. Ik sta meestal ook open voor suggesties voor andere scriptieonderwerpen.
