This event explores the promise of epigenetic editing for food systems, including its applications, limitations, and broader questions around safety, acceptance, and societal uptake. The programme will conclude with drinks and networking.

Speakers

• Pernette Verschure, Professor Functional Epigenome Dynamics at University of Amsterdam and Marianne Rots, Professor Molecular Epigenetics at University Medical Center Groningen, will introduce the basics of epigenetics and epigenetic editing and illustrate its current applications in life science and clinical domains.
• Jason Gardiner, Assistant Professor Plant Molecular Epigenetics at Utrecht University, will discuss how epigenetic editing can be translated to commercially relevant crops.
• Michelle Habets, Senior Researcher at Rathenau Institute and Wageningen University & Research, will address aspects of responsible innovation and legal implications of epigenetics in future applications.
• Michiel Meeuse, Program Director Sustainable Products & Processes at the Next Food Collective will discuss how novel (bio)technologies can play a role in innovation towards a more sustainable and resilient food system.

Panel Discussion

A panel discussion with the speakers and industrial affiliates, including representatives from KeyGene, will explore opportunities, challenges, and next steps for epigenetic editing in food and agriculture.
