The Cardiovascular Sciences track trains you to approach complex questions about the heart, vasculature and cardiovascular disease as a scientist. Through extensive research experience, you learn to formulate research questions, design and conduct studies, analyse and interpret data, critically evaluate evidence and communicate scientific findings. These skills prepare you particularly well for research. A PhD in cardiovascular science or a related biomedical field is a natural next step, but the scientific and analytical expertise you develop is also valuable beyond academia.

Programme-wide data for Biomedical Sciences show graduates moving into PhD positions and research roles as well as careers in pharmaceutical and biotech companies, hospitals and academic medical centres, government and policy, education, and IT/data science. The programme's recent presentation indicates that around 50–60% of Biomedical Sciences graduates continue to a PhD.

Depending on the profile you build during your MSc, possible roles include PhD candidate, cardiovascular or biomedical researcher, R&D scientist in a clinical or chemical lab, data scientist or bioinformatician, scientific writer, policy adviser or business developer in the life sciences.

Build your network while you study

Your connection to the cardiovascular research community starts during the Master's rather than after graduation. Through your courses, ACS scientific events and research projects, you meet researchers working across a range of cardiovascular fields and research environments.

Your research projects are particularly important for developing your own scientific profile. They allow you to discover which questions, methods and research settings suit you, while building experience and professional relationships that can help shape your next step.
