Els Das – Mathematics

A Master's programme in Mathematics is a solid education to such an extent that you will appeal to a large variety of employers. Knowing that you completed this study, employers will be certain that you are able to think deep and learn fast. After I completed the Master's programme in Mathematics I worked as a developer and development manager at a software company. Software development is very close to mathematics because of its exactness and strictness.

In 2002 I co-founded IntelliMagic BV, a company that develops advanced technical software for modelling and analysing data storage hardware performance. Our programmes are based on mathematical models such as queuing models. My job is to manage the company but I am still involved in the product development, especially when it touches the core algorithms. Since our programmes are models of computer hardware, it is important to understand the way the hardware works. The way of thinking that you learn while studying Mathematics makes the understanding of these technical concepts easy.
