Dr I.N. van Schaik has been named professor of Neurology at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA).
Dr I.N. van Schaik (1962) has been named professor of Neurology at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA).
Ivo van Schaik conducts research into peripheral neuropathies (nerve disorders) with a special focus on immune mediated diseases. His research focuses on improving the diagnostic and therapeutic options available to neuropathy patients and is currently of a mainly clinical nature. The prevention of nerve damage and the improvement of the peripheral nerve's regenerative capacity are some of Van Schaik's key areas of focus for the future.
Van Schaik has also served as a staff member at the AMC-UvA's Neurology department since 1999. Between 2005 and March 2010, he served as a staff member at the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis (OLVG) hospital in Amsterdam, where he also worked as a replacement teacher and unit chairman at the Neurology Primary Business Unit. As of April 2010, Van Schaik has been working on a fulltime basis at the AMC-UvA, where he heads the Neurology department. In addition to his work at the AMC-UvA and OLVG, he is a member of the editorial boards of the 'Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Neurologie en Neurochirurgie' (Dutch Journal for Neurology and Neurosurgery), and the Cochrane Neuromuscular Disease Group. Between 2004 and 2008, Van Schaik served as member - and subsequently chairman - of the Netherlands Neurology Association's guideline committee. Between 2006 and 2008, he also served as a member of the Board at the CBO (Healthcare Quality Institute) medical scientific council.
