J.W.J. Beentjes (1955) has been appointed Professor of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam’s (UvA) Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

Hans Beentjes conducts research on media effects. He is particularly interested in examining which specific message characteristics stimulate or inhibit the occurrence of these effects. Beentjes is currently involved in a study on the narrative conventions of television news, the perspective of the storyteller in fictional stories, and the characteristics of political media campaigns. He has also conducted research on media consumption by young people and media literacy.

Hans Beentjes is Professor of Communication Science at Radboud University Nijmegen. He was previously a university lecturer and doctoral candidate at Leiden University’s Child and Media department. Amongst other positions, Beentjes is a member of the Advisory Board at Sesame Street and the Kijkwijzer classification institute.
