Each year, a new jury is assembled for the UvA Education Awards. There are two juries: one for the individual awards and one for the team awards. The jury members carefully review all nominations and decide which lecturer, team and/or course will receive an award. Below, you can see who is part of these teams this year.

Individual awards

Edwin van Hooft

Edwin van Hooft is Professor of Work and Organisational Psychology and conducts research on motivation and self-regulation in performance settings. In addition, as Director of the Graduate School of Psychology he is responsible for the Master’s programmes in Psychology. In this capacity, and as a member of the Programme Committee for Educational Leadership and an SKO assessor, he is closely involved in the professional development of lecturers.

Hülya Koşar-Altinyelken

Dr Hülya Koşar Altinyelken is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on pedagogical and curricular reforms worldwide, and on how lecturers shape Western pedagogical models in diverse local contexts while navigating structural, cultural and material realities. She chairs the Special Interest Group on the International Classroom, through which she co-develops pedagogical tools, regularly organises seminars, and is currently co-developing a BKO+ training course on teaching in intercultural classrooms.

Jacobijn Olthoff

Jacobijn Olthoff has been working at the UvA for over 20 years and, since 2015, has served as Programme Director of the ILO, the Interfaculty Teacher Training Programmes. Her daily work centres on training lecturers, developing high-quality education, and reflecting on opportunities and diversity. Her drive lies in supporting the development of people, both young and old.

Team awards

Silvester Draaijer

Dr ir. Silvester Draaijer is Programme Manager of the VU Education Lab. The VU Education Lab is part of the VU Centre for Teaching and Learning and is the central unit at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam that supports faculties and lecturers in educational innovation where digitalisation and AI play a role. Silvester Draaijer has many years of experience in this role; for VU he provides, among other things, Comenius grant-writing support, has managed several innovation projects, and regularly serves as a jury member.

Sabine van Wesemael

Dr Sabine van Wesemael is Associate Professor of Modern Literature and, for the past several years, Director of Education of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Humanities. She has been teaching for 42 years in the programmes French, Literary Studies and European Studies.

Debby Gerritsen

Debby Gerritsen works at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies, where she contributes as a lecturer and educational developer to the development and integration of innovative inter- and transdisciplinary education. She is mainly involved in designing courses in which students collaborate and learn together with societal partners. She also develops education focused on intercultural and interdisciplinary collaboration and has extensive experience in assessment in inter- and transdisciplinary education.

Victor Nieboer

Victor Nieboer is an MSc student in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. In addition, he is committed to representing students in the Central Student Council as chair of the Outreach & Inclusivity Committee, where he and his fellow members work towards an accessible and diverse university.
