Master's programmes are 1-year programmes leading to a Master of Laws (LLM) degree. For International and European Law you can choose 1 of the 4 tracks.

European Competition Law and Regulation

The track in European Competition Law and Regulation offers a unique study programme across European universities to specialize in competition law. As a student, you will study the regulatory framework applicable to economic activities in fast-moving and progressively digitalized markets. You will learn to fully understand and explain the complex web of market processes in the European law context. Graduates of this track are ready to take on roles as competition lawyers, legal advisors for global companies, or regulators in national or EU institutions.

European Union Law

The European Union Law Master’s programme provides its students with a solid foundation in substantive and institutional EU law. Classes are taught by renowned experts in their fields of specialization. Our professors are scholars who are closely connected to one of our research centres of excellence. We integrate the most recent academic insights and legal developments into our curriculum, along with a path towards developing expertise in a specific area of specialization. Graduates often move on to roles as EU policy advisors, in-house counsel for EU institutions, or legal experts in international organizations.

International Trade and Investment Law

International trade and investment are driving forces in the world economy and its increasing globalization. This track of the Master's programme in International and European Law focuses on the international law that governs these economic relations for states and regions. A significant part of the programme concerns the Geneva-based World Trade Organisation (WTO). The WTO provides the legal framework for the multilateral trading systems for goods and services, including its advanced system of dispute resolution. This programme prepares you for a career as a trade negotiator, legal advisor to multinational companies, or a policy expert in international trade organizations.

Public International Law

The Public International Law programme allows students to tailor the Master's to their personal interests by enrolling in various elective courses and through their Master’s thesis. The Amsterdam Law School emphasises experiential education, a practice-oriented learning model in which students actively develop their legal skills by applying their knowledge to real-life and simulated real-life situations. All students in the Master’s Public International Law take at least one experiential education course as part of their degree. Career paths for graduates include roles as diplomats, international legal consultants, or human rights advocates.
