Professor Ad Lagendijk (1947) was a University Professor in Experimental Physics at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) from 28 September 1996 until 1 January 2012. Prior to this, he worked at the UvA as professor in Experimental Physics from 1984 to 2002.

Ad Lagendijk studied Physical Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), where he obtained his doctorate degree in 1974. In 2003, Lagendijk moved to the University of Twente together with his research group, where he is attached to the research institute MESA+, which is specialised in micro systems and nano technology. In 2002, Lagendijk was awarded the NWO Spinoza Prize, which is often called the ‘Dutch Nobel Prize’.
