Career development and professionalisation

Career development

The UvA offers diverse facilities, such as sabbatical leave for academic staff or an exploratory work placement for support staff. You can discuss your wishes (ideally during the annual consultation) with your supervisor and/or your personnel adviser. They can offer advice and point out training options within and outside the UvA.

Study facilities/long-term employability

You may be eligible for a study cost reimbursement, or study leave, for a course that enhances your career opportunities. The main question is how you want to develop your career: by building on your current position or making a move to a different area, within or outside the UvA.

Study programmes and courses

Several departments within the UvA offer training courses for UvA employees and you can follow Open UvA Courses. It is also possible to enrol in a programme or course at another institution. You are entitled to development days (paid leave) to attend a conference, follow a training programme or course, or for a short work placement.
