We discuss how beliefs, values, identity and communication patterns influence the way people experience the climate debate. In addition, you will be introduced to practical insights and techniques for engaging in constructive climate conversations with those who think differently. You will learn how to build connection and enhance mutual understanding precisely when positions diverge. In this way, you will gain tools to make climate conversations less polarising and more constructive.
Christel van Eck works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. She is a dedicated researcher who analyses how we communicate about climate change – and how we can do this better. In her work, she studies themes such as polarisation, effective science communication, climate conversations and climate journalism. In addition to her research, she regularly gives talks and workshops on these topics.
