Drawing on collaborations with leading museums, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he will showcase a range of striking visual examples that demonstrate how cutting-edge imaging technologies and AI are transforming the museum world. Researchers can now zoom in to the level of individual brushstrokes, revealing details invisible to the naked eye. Erdmann will also share insights from the groundbreaking research surrounding Rembrandt’s The Night Watch.
Beyond research, he will demonstrate how AI systems he has developed are helping museums analyse and manage vast collections, support conservators, and create more personalised visitor experiences. Rob Erdmann is Professor of Conservation and Restoration, and of Physics at the University of Amsterdam and works closely with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Combining expertise in art conservation, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, he develops innovative tools that help museums study, preserve and share their collections in new ways. His work includes pioneering research on Rembrandt’s The Night Watch and collaborations with leading museums around the world.
