Dr Alfred Zerres (1982) graduated summa cum laude from the University of Cologne in 2011. He works as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Münster. His research focuses on how teams of negotiators behave in a complex environment. The grant will enable Zerres to further investigate the role that leadership styles play in negotiations.

About the research grant

The Hendrik Casimir-Ziegler Research Grant is named after Prof. Hendrik Casimir (the first president of the KNAW) and Prof. Karl Ziegler (the first president of the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy). Both academies award these research grants to a young postdoctoral fellow from the Netherlands and one from North Rhine-Westphalia annually. Besides Zerres, Dr Hein van den Berg has received a grant to do research at the Technical University of Dortmund. An amount of up to 50,000 euros is awarded to research conducted in the humanities and social sciences, and earth and life sciences on an alternating basis.

The presentation of the Casimir-Ziegler grants will be held on 12 March 2012 in Amsterdam.
