On Monday, 3 September 2012, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will celebrate the opening of the academic year 2012-2013 in the Aula, Singel 411. The theme of the event is: 'Amsterdam in the world: Europe.

The programme starts at 15:00, and the Aula will be open from 14:30. Interested parties, students and staff are welcome to attend the opening, as well as the reception afterwards in the hall of the Maagdenhuis.

Programme

During the Opening, the following speakers will address the audience:

■ Dr Louise Gunning-Schepers, President of the Executive Board UvA-HvA
■ Prof. Dr. Stan Bentvelsen, UvA Professor of Large Hadron Collider Physics
■ Mr Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam

The musical interlude will be provided by the band The specific gravity of rock, with Professor Edward de Haan, dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, on the rhythm guitar.
