Throughout our lives we constantly make choices, consciously and unconsciously, and each choice gives a different result. What would have happened if you had taken a different path from the one you did? What would your life be like now? Would you be happier? More successful? Questions like these are becoming increasingly important with the advent of social media which puts our lives on display. Every step you take can be 'followed' and judged. The impact of media and communication on our daily choices was therefore the theme of University Day 2022.
Opening remarks by Geert ten Dam and keybote by Anita Elberse.
During the failure session, three alumni ((Jim Gardien, Sabyasachi Sengupta and Ronit Palache) told inspiring stories about their failures and how these ultimately made them stronger. The moderator was Jules Schlicher. Jules works for the Economics and Business Career Center where he has organised an event called 'Fuckup Nights' for the past two years.
Students and alumni who have chosen to begin a start-up talked about their venture and the road they had to travel. What can alumni mean for them? With Micky Chen from Minite, Julien Jukema from Anywyse and Emilia Berenyi from wegozero. Through Minite, companies hire screened student talents for one-off jobs to help them grow faster. Anywyse helps students to be more productive, but with less stress, by providing audio study materials and guidance. And wegozero is a consultancy that helps companies transition to waste-free operations to promote sustainability. The session was led by Alexander Esser. He is an ASIF board member.
