The decision to join EUGLOH was driven by the Alliance’s strong focus on global health in an interdisciplinary context, which closely aligns with our expertise and academic profile. The UvA sees significant potential to connect its priority themes — Responsible Digital Transformations, Fair & Resilient Societies, Sustainable Prosperity, and Healthy Futures — with EUGLOH’s Focus Areas. This alignment of strategic objectives makes EUGLOH a natural partner for advancing UvA’s long-term ambitions in education and research.
By welcoming the UvA as the Netherlands’ largest research-intensive university, EUGLOH enhances both the diversity and excellence of its academic portfolio. The addition also broadens the Alliance’s geographical reach, creating new opportunities for Amsterdam-based students and researchers to actively participate in EUGLOH’s collaborative initiatives.
The UvA has been a full member of the EPICUR alliance since its establishment in 2019. Its participation in the alliance will conclude at the end of the current funding phase of EPICUR-SHAPE-IT, which runs until 31 October 2026. The UvA is grateful for the shared achievements, cooperation and knowledge gained during its participation in EPICUR. The UvA wishes EPICUR every success in its continued journey as a European alliance and is glad to have been able to contribute to its formation.
The year 2026 will serve as a transition period, during which the UvA will gradually prepare for full participation in EUGLOH while ensuring a smooth and responsible handover of its tasks and commitments within EPICUR.
EUGLOH has submitted its application for the two-year project extension (2027-2028) under the Erasmus+ 2026 Call for Proposals “Partnerships for Excellence – European Universities”. UvA’s accession to the Alliance is subject to the outcome of this application process.
