Prof. D Bonn has been appointed professor of Complex Fluids at the Faculty of Science.

Prof. D Bonn (b. 1967) has been appointed professor of Complex Fluids at the Faculty of Science of the Universiteit van Amsterdam. Daniel Bonn had already been working at the UvA as extraordinary professor since 2003. In his new position he will, among other things, build on his previous work on the flow behaviour of complex fluids.

Bonn obtained his PhD degree at the UvA in 1993 with research on liquids. He continued this research at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris where he also conducted research on non-linear physics: pattern formation, turbulence, drop dynamics and breaking behaviour of solid matters. During the past ten years Bonn has also conducted much research on glass transition and flow behaviour of complex liquids. At the UvA he will be continuing his research on the dynamics of drops, glass transition, the flow of complex luiquids and the structure of liquid surfaces.

Apart from extraordinary professor at the UvA Bonn has been working at the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris as CNRS researcher since 1995. He has been group leader of the research group Complex Fluids at the Laboratoire de Physique Statistique of ENS since 1999. Bonn was awarded the Marie Curie Excellence Award from the European Commission in 2003 for his research on the dynamics of complex fluids.
