Dr B.C.M. Waaijer (1959) has been named Professor by Special Appointment in Notarial Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). This chair has been endowed by the Society for the Advancement of Notarial Law (Stichting tot Bevordering der Notariële Wetenschap).

Boudewijn Waaijer's research focuses on the position of the civil law notary within the legal system, with particular emphasis on legal proceedings that have given rise to criteria for the statutory involvement of civil law notaries, how the notary fulfils this duty, and client confidentiality and attorney-client privilege. Additional areas of interest include deontology (ethics) of the notarial profession, also in light of the implementation of the 1999 Notaries Act to enhance competition between civil law notaries. Waaijer's research deals with specific professional techniques applied by disciplinary courts and other notarial supervisory bodies.

Waaijer has been active as a civil law notary since 1983. He was named Partner at the Boekel De Nerée law firm in Amsterdam in 1996, where he has also been working as a civil law notary since 1998. From 1990 until 1999 he held a position as University Lecturer at the Catholic University of Nijmegen (now Radboud University Nijmegen). He earned his PhD in 1993 with a dissertation on Articles of Incorporation and Amendments to Articles of Incorporation (Statuten en statutenwijzinging). Since 1998 he has served as Editor of the Dutch professional journal Weekblad voor Privaatrecht, Notariaat en Registratie. His own publications include the handbook Melis De Notariswet (Kluwer), which entered its seventh printing in 2003, and the Handboek Erfrecht (Kluwer), of which he is a co-author and which had its fourth printing in 2006. He is a member of the Teaching Committee of the Foundation for Professional Education for Civil Law Notaries (Onderwijscommissie van de Stichting Beroepsopleiding Notariaat).
